New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced Tuesday that the team has placed offensive tackle Jammal Brown on the reserve/injured list and re-signed offensive lineman Nick Leckey.
Brown is a fifth-year player who was the team’s first-round choice (13th overall) in the 2005 NFL Draft. The 6-6, 313-pound lineman has started all 58 games he has played in during his first four seasons and has been selected to the Pro Bowl twice, following the 2006 and 2008 seasons. The former University of Oklahoma standout underwent surgical procedures to repair a sports hernia and a hip injury last month and will miss the entire season.
Leckey was first signed by the Saints in March and was inactive for the first two games of the regular season before being released Saturday. The versatile lineman who can play center or guard is a sixth-year player who has previously played for the Arizona Cardinals and St. Louis Rams since being selected by the Cardinals in the sixth round of the 2004 draft. The 6-3, 291-pound product of Kansas State has played in 57 career games, starting 32 of them in his first five NFL seasons.
