NFL CAREER – A player expected to be an important contributor on offense in 2008 and beyond, Meachem was taken by the Saints in the first round in 2007 out of the University of Tennessee. He spent his rookie campaign recovering from a leg injury and learning the offense, and by season’s end Meachem was giving a weekly indication in practice of his ability and potential.

CAREER TRANSACTIONS – Agreed to terms on a five-year contract, 7/24/07; Drafted by the Saints in the first round (27th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft.

2007 – Inactive for all 16 regular season games…Played in all five preseason games, catching five passes for 40 yards and a touchdown.

COLLEGE – Started 15 of 37 games in his three-year career in Knoxville, catching 125 passes for 2,140 yards (17.1 avg.) with 17 touchdowns…Was just the sixth player in school history to gain over 2,000 receiving yards and left ranked fifth in touchdown catches…Had a breakout season in 2006 after posting 71 catches for a school-record 1,298 yards and 11 touchdowns… Earned All-American first-team accolades from the Football Writers Association and The Sporting News…All-SEC first-team pick by the league’s coaches and The Associated Press…Gained over 100 yards receiving in six contests…Registered 58 first downs, and 18 of his catches were for 20 yards or longer…Played in 11 games as a sophomore in 2005, with two starts, and led team with 29 receptions for 383 yards (13.2 avg.) and two TDs…Of his catches, 16 went for first downs…Played in every game in 2004 as a redshirt freshman and ranked third on team with 25 receptions for a team-high 459 yards (18.4-yard avg.) and four touchdowns…17 of his 25 grabs resulted in first downs, and 10 were for 20 yards or longer…Redshirted in his first year after suffering knee injury in August.

PERSONAL – Majored in communications at Tennessee…Was named All-State as a senior at Booker T. Washington (Tulsa, Okla.) HS, recording 543 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns and rushing for 531 yards and eight TDs while guiding school to a 13-1 record and a runner-up finish in state championship…Played point guard on two-time state championship basketball team…Resides in Tulsa, Okla.
