ESPN re-broadcast of 'Rebirth' game delivers 10.9 rating in New Orleans

Former Saints players, both coaches, added insight on Twitter during broadcast

Green Day and U2 put forth a memorable performance during pregame during the Saints' 2006 Superdome reopening game vs. the Atlanta Falcons.

ESPN's re-broadcast of the "Rebirth" game in New Orleans on Monday, April 6 delivered a 10.9 local household rating with more than 67,000 household impressions.

The "Monday Night Football" game originally was played Sept. 25, 2006 and marked the return of the New Orleans Saints to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome following a Hurricane Katrina-forced exile. ESPN re-aired it Monday as part of its Classic series, an attempt to provide some sports programming during the coronavirus pandemic, which has forced a pause in all sporting events.

Former Saints players, including Steve Gleason, took to Twitter to provide insight and analysis of the game and were joined by Saints Coach Sean Payton and former Falcons Coach Jim L. Mora. Coach Mora talked about the experience on the Wednesday edition of the Saints podcast presented by SeatGeek. You can listen to it here.

According to a Twitter post by WDSU-6 sports anchor Fletcher Mackel, the re-broadcast was the most-watched show in New Orleans on Monday.
