The New Orleans Saints selected Wisconsin offensive tackle Ryan Ramczyk with the 32nd overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft and clearly had a plan for their latest first round draft pick when they selected him. However, now that starting left tackle Terron Armstead reportedly will miss extensive time with an injury, the opportunity for Ramczyk to contribute immediately has increased.
Recovering from a hip surgery, 6-foot-6, 314-pound Ramczyk was forced to sit out part of OTAs and minicamp. His main focus during the first few months of the offseason with the Saints was to study the playbook and learn the offense. The lineman spoke about his mental preparation:
"Lot of install going in right now. Just trying to figure everything out and then when my time comes, be able to put it out on the field.
"It's tough not being able to go out there and compete with the guys. For me, I know what I have to do."
Saints Coach Sean Payton stated on his new offensive lineman: "He's picking things up very quickly. He's in good shape, and much further along than really we anticipated with his surgery. It's been a good exposure."
