25 reasons to get excited about Saints camp - No. 17, new coaches

Dennis Allen, other new coaches come in at No. 17 on our countdown to Saints training camp presented by Verizon

New Orleans Saints Coach Sean Payton made a number of moves with his coaching staff this offseason. The biggest was bringing back Dennis Allen as the team's senior defensive assistant.

Allen, who was part of Payton's original staff in New Orleans, most recently was the head coach of the Oakland Raiders. He also served as defensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos after being part of the Saints' staff that led the team to its Super Bowl triumph in 2010.

Other new coaches include wide receivers coach John Morton, running backs coach Joel Thomas, defensive assistant James Willis, offensive assistants Kyle DeVan and Greg Lewis and coaching assistant Brendan Nugent.

Payton on Allen: "He is a real sharp coach. I would say he is a real good teacher and because I have worked with him it was an easy fit to see and just to know what you were getting exactly. Those guys have been working well defensively and he is a good addition for us."
