Bobby Hebert's Career Background
Former Saints quarterback Bobby Hebert was enshrined in the New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame after spending seven seasons of his 11-year career in the Black and Gold.
The Cut Off, La. native was signed by the Saints in 1985 after playing in the USFL for the Michigan Panthers and Oakland Invaders for three years, where he won a league championship in 1983 and set the career passing yardage record. Hebert was the primary signal caller behind New Orleans first winning season and playoff appearance in 1987, as he completed 164-of-294 passes for 2,119 yards and 15 touchdowns. He led the Saints to their second winning season again in 1988 and completed 280-of-478 passes for 3,156 yards and 20 touchdowns.
Hebert had a career-year in 1992, when he guided the Saints to a 12-4 record, their best record in franchise history. That year he started all 16 games and completed 249-of-422 passes for a career-high 3,287 yards and 19 touchdowns. Overall, throughout his career in New Orleans, Hebert played in 78 games with 75 starts with a 49-26 record with a team that went 72-176 before his arrival, and completed 1,202-of-2,055 passes for 14,630 yards and 85 touchdowns.
After his Saints tenure, Hebert went on to play four years for Atlanta, where he earned one selection to the Pro Bowl in 1993 before retiring from pro football following the 1996 season. Since retiring, Hebert has become a Saints talk show host for WWL radio and started his own sports-themed restaurant, Bobby Hebert's Cajun Cannon Restaurant. He has two sons, T-Bob and Beaux, who played football at LSU and Nicholls State, respectively. T-Bob is now a talk show host for ESPN 104.5 in Baton Rouge and Beaux coaches high school football at St. Mary's High School in St. Louis, Mo., after previously serving on the basketball strength and conditioning staff at the University of New Orleans.
