One of the main focuses of Monday's practice was short yardage, including "third down and fourth down and 1."
Coach Sean Payton said the team is focused on evaluating the players during this first preseason game against the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night.
Regarding playing time for the starters in their first preseason game, Payton said "15 snaps" is a good estimate. "We'll be smart and put a plan together that meets our goals for this game."
Payton spoke on the competitive environment at Monday's practice. "As the head coach, you want to see the momentum swing both ways. You want to see success offensively, you want to see success from your defense. I thought we had good juice today."
Payton and his coaching staff are aware of the benefits of preseason games versus practices. "You do get a better evaluation. There's someone that's prepared going full speed... you learn a lot and it gives you an opportunity to really measure growth."
