Through the Chevron/Saints Teacher of the Week Program, two outstanding teachers from St. Tammany parish were honored for their outstanding commitment to the development and education of the students at their respective schools during the Saints vs. Texans home game on September 25th.
Mr. Vance Lynch, a Slidell resident since the age of 6, teaches advanced computer architecture and networking to the 9th through 12th grade students at Covington High School as the school's web and multimedia teacher.
In these classes, his students are learning how to build computers and create websites and videos. Vance was recently selected as the St. Tammany Parish High School District and Regional Teacher of the Year.
He also has a vast educational background, having earned a bachelor's degree in biology, psychology, and the liberal arts from West Virginia University and a Masters of teaching degree from the University of Virginia.
Mrs. Darla Foley, a sixth grade teacher at Tchefuncte Middle Schoo in her hometown of Mandeville, has acquired quite a few degrees in her preparation to become an outstading teacher.
She has earned a degree in legal assistant studies from Nicholls State university, a bachelor of arts degree from Loyola, a master of arts degree in teaching from Southeastern University, and most recently a master plus thirty degree from Northwestern State University and the University of Phoenix.
Darla currently teaches all required subjects to her students and was named as the St. Tammany Parish district and Regional Teacher of the Year in the middle and junior high school division.
Both teachers received a certificate of appreciation and a team lithograph football presented by Saints Owner/Executive Vice President, Rita Benson Leblanc, and Chevron's Public and Government Affairs Representative, Karen Rawls during the on-field presentation.
The Saints and Chevron are quite fortunate to have these two individuals as a part of our community and applaud the efforts of both teachers as they continue to educate our children.
