The New Orleans Saints announced today the introduction of www.saints50.com, a microsite dedicated to the celebration of 50 seasons of Saints football. The team's current website, www.neworleanssaints.com, will serve as the portal to the microsite which will pay homage to the team's beginnings and celebrate five decades of Saints football.
"We are excited to launch Saints50.com, a microsite that we've developed and know that the incredible fans of our team will thoroughly enjoy seeing all of the features that we have in store for them," Saints President Dennis Lauscha said. "We are blessed to have such a rich heritage, uniquely colorful personalities and in a city and region that has supported the Saints for five decades and pass their passions on from generation to generation. We are equally excited to know that areas of the site have been created that will provide our fans with a forum to share their stories and affinity for the Saints."
The fans of the Saints will serve as vital contributors to the microsite, with opportunities to help select the greatest plays, players and draft picks in the team's rich history. Fans can also post their favorite memories about the Saints on social media using the hashtag #Saints50 and these posts will be displayed on Saints50.com and possibly incorporated into other pieces of content the team will create during the season.
Every Thursday the team will release a From the Archives photo gallery, a collection of historic images, many of which most fans have never seen.
There also will be more interactive elements, such as an aptly entitled Saints Rushmore, in which fans can select the four greatest players/coaches/contributors in team history and build their own monument. Each's fan's Saints Rushmore can be shared on social media and will live on Saints50.com.
The team's official app will host a challenging 50 days of Saints trivia contest starting June 1. The winner will receive two tickets to a gala in the fall celebrating the team's all-50th team.
During the season Saints50.com will host a comprehensive look back on the men that made up the inaugural 1967 team as well as weekly articles highlighting some of the great players, moments and traditions in team history.
Additionally, the Saints will unveil a fascinating documentary on the 2006 re-opening of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
