The New Orleans Saints hosted a USA Football Coaching School at their practice facility in Metairie on Saturday, May 21.
Local youth football coaches, received both on-field and classroom instruction from high school and veteran youth coaches at the event. The purpose of the clinic is for coaches to learn about fundamentals, as well increasing the efficiency of practices by having new and different techniques introduced to them by their peers. With the handling of concussions becoming of utmost importance, the coaches were also taught by medical professionals how to recognize and take action if a youth athlete is suspected to have a possible concussion.
The participants were also the recipients of a speech by Tulane University Head Coach Bob Toledo. Emphasizing the important developmental role on and off the field that coaches can have with their players, the veteran college head coach also emphasized to allow their players to have fun, while at the same time learning the game of football.
