Second-quarter update: The New Orleans Saints ended the period up 14-10 over the San Francisco 49ers but it took a series of crazy events for that to happen Sunday at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
San Francisco tied the score at 7 on an 11-yard touchdown pass from Colin Kaepernick to Anquan Boldin. The score was set up when Lance Moore fumbled a 49ers punt. Moore was only back returning punts because of an injury to Darren Sproles.
It looked iike the Saints were back in business when Corey White intercepted Kaepernick and raced toward the goal line. Kaepernick shoved White who fumbled the ball out of the end zone which gave the ball back to the 49ers. They took the ball down the field and scored on a 55-yard Phil Dawson field goal.
But Travaris Cadet took the kickoff back 82 yards to put the Saints in easy scoring position. Three plays later they did just that, scoring on a 1-yard Jed Collins run.
Key stats: Saints, Drew Brees, 12 of 17 for 97 yards and one TD. Pierre Thomas, five carries for 27 yards, four catches for 27 yards. 49ers, Kaepernick, 10 of 19 for 64 yards, one TD and one interception. Frank Gore, seven carries for 33 yards.
