1st half game action photos from Jacksonville as the New Orleans Saints take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in the first game of the preseason.
The New Orleans Saints spent Friday studying film from their game at Jacksonville, working in the weight room, and practicing on the indoor field at the Ochsner Sports Performance Center. The practice was light but up-tempo. Coach Sean Payton and his staff took the players through several situational periods which needed attention following the first preseason game of the Training Camp 2018 presented by Verizon. Here are some observations:
Wide receiver Cameron Meredith continues his ramp up to full participation. Meredith was involved all throughout Friday's practice and worked a lot with the first-team offense. Meredith, who is coming off of knee surgery, did not play Thursday night against the Jaguars. Linebacker Manti T'eo and offensive lineman Cameron Tom were both dressed and participating Friday. Their activity was limited.
A couple of Saints left Thursday's game due to injury. Mitchell Loewen and P.J. Williams both did not practicing Friday after exiting Thursday night with unspecified injury.
Saints quarterback Taysom Hill spoke with the media Friday after seeing his first game action under center for the Black and Gold on Thursday night. Hill played on offense mostly in the second half following a first half full of special teams play. If you found it rare to see a player participate at quarterback and special teams (aside from holding on place kicks) in the same game, you're not alone. I've never seen it, nor has Hill. Hill says it was the first time he has ever played a game in which he has done both.
