6. Saints Defeat Rams for First Playoff Victory
Prior to the 2000 season, Jim Haslett was named the 13th head coach in club history. After starting 1-3, the Saints went on a six-game winning streak and eventually finished the season 10-6 including a 7-1 record on the road. After finishing in last place the year before, the Saints won the NFC West and advanced to the playoffs to face the St. Louis Rams in the Superdome in the NFC Wild Card Game. QB Aaron Brooks threw for four touchdown passes including three to wide receiver Willie Jackson which tied an NFL postseason mark. The win was clinched after Rams' Az-Zahir Hakim fumbled a fair catch on a punt return and the ball was recovered by Saints fullback Brian Milne with 1:51 remaining in the game that led to a 31-28 Saints victory.
