Cory Robinson is now in his third season with the New Orleans Saints, serving as assistant defensive backs coach. Robinson, who possesses 13 years of coaching experience, works with Senior Defensive Assistant Peter Giunta in assisting Co-Defensive Coordinator/Secondary Coach Kris Richard in tutoring the Black and Gold cornerbacks and safeties.
In 2021, Robinson and the Saints defensive staff developed third round draft pick Paulson Adebo, who was the only Saints defender to open all 17 contests in 2021, while tying for the team lead with three interceptions, second among all National Football League rookies. Marshon Lattimore continued his improvement with a career-high 19 passes defensed, ranked third in the NFL, as he was selected to his third consecutive Pro Bowl, second under Robinson's steady guidance. New Orleans was tied for sixth in the NFL with 18 interceptions, with 16 of them coming from the secondary, with Adebo, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Lattimore and P.J. Williams tied for the team lead with three apiece. In addition to New Orleans finishing fourth in the NFL in scoring defense (19.7 points per game) and seventh in total defense (318.2 net yards per game), the Saints gave up the third-fewest touchdown passes (20).
Prior to coming to New Orleans in 2020, Robinson spent four seasons in the college ranks working with defensive backs. The Baltimore native served as the defensive passing game coordinator/defensive backs coach at the University of Maryland in 2019, where he also was director of player personnel in 2015. Robinson also took part in a training camp internship with the Saints in 2019.
Prior to his 2019 stint in College Park, Robinson served as passing game coordinator/cornerbacks coach at Rutgers in 2018. He also coached cornerbacks at Toledo (2016) and Temple (2017). In 2017, he helped guide the Owls to a first-place American Athletic Conference ranking in pass defense, as they allowed only 206.8 passing yards per game. Prior to moving into the college ranks in 2015, Robinson coached at two high schools in Maryland from 2009-14.
Robinson was a starting cornerback at Central Connecticut State, earning a bachelor's degree in communications with a minor in business/marketing in 2009. He was also co-founder of Next Level Nation, a Baltimore-based nonprofit that hosted football workouts, among other services for local boys in need of mentorship.
