Fayard's Key Takeaways from New Orleans Saints training camp: Sept. 3

Crowd noise, Brees rests, Baun returns

Photos from New Orleans Saints training camp practice on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Observations from New Orleans Saints training camp practice on Thursday, Sept. 3, helmets and shoulder pads inside the Mercedes-Benz Superdome:

  1. ROAR OF THE CROWD: Well, not necessarily a "roar." But the Saints did have pumped-in crowd noise and music, to the levels that have been deemed acceptable in the NFL for teams that will not have fans at games. The crowd noise level is 70 decibels and for music, it escalates to 75 decibels. Those levels are subject to change as fans are added to the equation.
  2. EASY DOES IT: For the second straight day, quarterback Drew Brees had an off day from throwing. All the QB work was left to backups Taysom Hill and Jameis Winston. Among their highlights, Hill with a back-shoulder touchdown throw to Michael Thomas, and Winston with a rope to connect with Deonte Harris between safety Malcolm Jenkins and cornerback Jackrabbit Jenkins, down the right sideline.
  3. BAUN SIGHTING: Rookie linebacker Zack Baun was back on the field Thursday. Baun didn't participate in practice; he did some conditioning under the direction of a member of the training staff. But being in uniform and on the field puts him a step closer to returning to practice.
