- With the 40th pick overall pick in the second round, New Orleans selected Louisville QB Tyler Shough (last name pronounced sh-uck), with their first third round pick (71st overall), they selected Texas DT Vernon Broughton and with their second third round choice (93rd overall), the Saints picked Virginia S Jonas Sanker.
- The three selections that the Saints made on Day Two of the NFL Draft were the most made by the team on a Friday, since picking four players in the second and third rounds in 2017.
- Shough's selection marks the first time that the Saints have picked a quarterback in the second round of the NFL Draft and he is the highest-drafted Saints signal-caller since Archie Manning was chosen out of Mississippi with the second overall choice in the 1971 NFL Draft.
- This is the seventh time New Orleans has selected from the 40th overall slot. The 13th overall slot and the 40th slot have produced the most Saints draft picks with seven apiece.
- Shough, 6-5, 219, was the 25th quarterback selected by the club all-time.
- Shough became the first Louisville quarterback selected by New Orleans. He is the fifth Cardinals player selected in the draft by the Saints.
- Shough is the only former Cardinals player currently on the Saints roster.
- With the Saints having selected QBs Jake Haener, Spencer Rattler and Shough in the last three NFL Drafts, all three of these signal-callers participated in the Senior Bowl.
- In seven seasons at Oregon (2018-20), Texas Tech (2021-23) and Louisville (2024), Shough played in 41 games and completed 599-of-951 passes (63.0 pct.) for 7,820 yards with 59 touchdowns, also carrying 246 times for 733 yards with 11 scores.
- In 2024, Shough was selected as the nation's consensus Comeback Player of the Year for the Cardinals, rebounding from a season-ending leg injury suffered in 2023 at Texas Tech. He completed 244-of-389 passes for 3,195 yards with 23 touchdowns and only six interceptions in 12 games, recording an 8-4 record as a starter and leading them to a Sun Bowl berth.
- Following the selection of Kelvin Banks Jr. with the ninth overall pick out of Texas, Broughton was the ninth Texas player picked by New Orleans in the NFL Draft. Texas is now tied with Alabama and Missouri for producing the 13th most Saints draft selections. With Banks and Broughton both selected out of Texas in the 2025 NFL Draft by the Saints, it marks the first time two Saints were selected from the same school since 2016 when both S Vonn Bell and WR Michael Thomas were second round picks. Broughton is the 37th defensive tackle selected by the Saints. Broughton joins Banks and LB Jaylan Ford as the third former Longhorn on the Saints roster.
- In his college career, the Cypress, Texas native was credited with 69 career tackles, 11 stops for loss, six sacks, four fumble recoveries, three pass breakups and two forced fumbles.
- In 2024, Broughton was a mainstay on the Longhorns defensive line, appearing in all 16 games and recording 39 tackles (24 solo), including 4.5 stops for loss, four sacks, two pass breakups, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
- From 2021-23 in Austin, Broughton played for newly-hired Saints Defensive Line Coach Bo Davis, who served in the same position at Texas. In 2023, Broughton played in 14 games and finished with 17 tackles (seven solo), 4.5 stops for loss, one sack, one pass breakup and one fumble recovery.
- Sanker, 6-1, 210, is the 47th safety taken by the Saints in the NFL Draft. He is only the second Saint taken with the 93rd overall selection, joining Kentucky LB Jim Kovach in 1979. The Charlottesville, Va. native is the sixth Saint taken from UVA, but the first since LB David Griggs in 1989. He is currently the only player from Virginia on the team's roster.
- In four seasons (2021-24) with the Cavaliers, the Charlottesville native appeared in 43 games with 33 starts and recorded 273 tackles (176 solo), 13 stops for loss, two sacks, four forced fumbles, two interceptions, 17 pass breakups and four forced fumbles.
- In 2024, Sanker started all 12 games he played in and recorded 98 tackles (65 solo), with eight of the stops on special teams. He also added 8.5 stops for loss, two sacks, one interception and five passes defensed. Voted as one of five team captains at the conclusion of the season, Sanker was also a Phil Steele Honorable Mention All-America and consensus first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection.
- In 2023, Sanker started all 12 of the Cavaliers' games and led the team in total tackles (107), pass breakups (11) and forced fumbles (three), earning consensus first-team All-ACC.
- On Saturday, the Saints have five picks remaining, two in the fourth round, one in the sixth round and two in the seventh round.
