Bob Pollard's Career Background

Former Saints defensive lineman Bob Pollard was enshrined in the New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame in 1995 after playing seven seasons of his 11-year career for the Black and Gold.

Originally selected by the Saints in the 11th round of the 1971 NFL Draft, Bob Pollard had an immediate impact on New Orleans' defensive line, starting all 14 games his rookie season and recording two sacks and one fumble recovery. He continued to be a stalwart over his remaining six campaigns with the Black and Gold, playing in a total of 92 games with 89 starts, recording career totals of 37 sacks (note sacks were not an official NFL statistic until 1982) and 12 fumble recoveries with one returned for a touchdown. Pollard was named a defensive captain in 1976 and served in this role until his final year with the Saints in 1977. After the 1977 season, Pollard went on to play for the St. Louis Cardinals who acquired him in a trade with the Saints, where he started all 62 games he appeared in over four seasons and tallied 20 additional sacks and two more fumble recoveries.

Prior to being drafted by the Saints, the Beaumont, Texas native stayed close to home after high school and began his college football career at Texas Southern University in Houston before transferring to Weber State.
