New Orleans Saints Ring of Honor member Sam Mills named one of 15 finalists for Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2022

It's third time legendary Saints linebacker has been a finalist

Sam Mills, who was inducted into the New Orleans Saints Ring of Honor earlier this month, was named as one of 15 finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2022 on Thursday, Dec. 30.

The legendary linebacker spent nine seasons with the Saints from 1986-1994, and was a member of the Dome Patrol. Mills died in 2005 due to intestinal cancer.

Mills was elected to the Saints Hall of Fame in 1998 and the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in 2001. He was one of the 15 finalists for the class of 2020 and nine finalists for the class of 2021. Mills was inducted into the Saints Ring of Honor at halftime of the game against the Dallas Cowboys on Dec. 2.

Former Saints cornerback Eric Allen, one of 25 semifinalists, didn't advance to the final grouping of players. Allen, who played with the Saints from 1995-97, played the majority of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles and ended his career with the Raiders.

We honor late 'Dome Patrol' legend Sam Mills who played in New Orleans from 1986-1994.

New Orleans Saints legend Sam Mills was inducted into the Saints Ring of Honor on Thursday, December 2, 2021 as the Saints took on the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night.
