SUNDAY, DEC. 8, 2024 ● METLIFE STADIUM
SAINTS POSTGAME NOTES
- The New Orleans Saints secured a win over the New York Giants 14-11 on Sunday. They improved their record to 5-8, improved their record against the Giants to 16-17 and evened their record against New York at MetLife Stadium to 2-2.
- Interim head coach Darren Rizzi improved his record to 3-1 with the victory.
- The Saints win gives the Saints a 2-1 record against NFC East opponents in 2024 with their final matchup hosting Washington on Sunday, Dec. 15 at the Caesars Superdome, scheduled for noon. The contest will be regionally televised on FOX (WVUE-8 locally). Including a 44-19 win at the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 19, the Saints victory gave them a 2-0 record on the road for their 2024 NFC East slate.
- New Orleans allowed the Giants defense to convert only five-of-19 third down attempts (26.3 percent).
- The New Orleans defense allowed Giants quarterback Drew Lock to complete only 21 of 49 passes (42.9 percent) for 227 yards, sacked him twice and intercepted him once for a 48.6 passer rating. The Saints pass defense also finished with 13 pass breakups.
- Quarterback Derek Carr completed 20 of 31 passes (64.5 percent), for 219 yards with one touchdown pass and one interception.
- Carr improved his record as a starting quarterback against the Giants to 3-1 all-time and 2-0 as the signal-caller for New Orleans.
- Carr's touchdown strike was to tight end Juwan Johnson. Carr and Johnson connected on the 11-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter.
- Running back Kendre Miller came back to action for the first time since Week 8 at the Los Angeles Chargers. He showcased his electric abilities once again, rushing for the first touchdown of the game on a 98-yard drive. That nine-play, 98-yard drive was the longest scoring drive the Saints have had since Sept. 11, 2016, vs the Oakland Raiders, which was a 98-yard drive on a 98-yard touchdown connection from quarterback Drew Brees to wide receiver Brandin Cooks. Miller carried 10 times for 32 yards and returned a kickoff 31 yards.
- Running back Alvin Kamara finished with 44 yards rushing, adding five receptions for 35 yards. Kamara has 938 rushing yards on the season and needs 62 rushing yards next Sunday vs. Washington to reach 1,000 yards rushing for the first time in his eight-year career.
- With Kamara's 79 yards from scrimmage, he reached 1,400 yards for the first time since his career-high total of 1,688 in 2020.
- With his five receptions to increase his career total to 569, Kamara took sole possession of eighth place in the NFL record books for receptions among NFL running backs, surpassing Roger Craig. In team annals, Kamara moved into second place and passed up wide receiver Michael Thomas.
- Wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Johnson led the receiving effort for the Black and Gold. Valdez-Scantling recorded four grabs for 51 yards to reach 200 career grabs, and Johnson accumulated four grabs for 50 yards and a touchdown. Tight end Foster Moreau was also efficient with two grabs for 40 yards, including a game-long 32-yard catch that helped set up the Carr-Johnson touchdown connection.
- Defensive tackle Bryan Bresee was a major disruptor. He now has 7.5 sacks with his one Sunday, which is a career and team high. He also surpassed La'Roi Glover (1997) and Nick Fairley (2016) for the sixth-highest total in club history.
- Bresee also had two passes defensed, but he most importantly got a hand on the Giants' potential tying field goal at the end of the fourth quarter to secure the win for the Saints for his first career blocked kick.
- Defensive tackle Khalen Saunders had his second sack of the season.
- Linebacker Demario Davis recorded the only takeaway of the game for the Saints with an interception in the fourth quarter. He also tied for the team lead with eight tackles.
- Davis played in his 110th game as a Saint and moved into a tie for 39th all-time in Saints record books for games played with punter Tommy Barnhardt.
- Defensive back Ugo Amadi also led the defensive effort, tying for the team lead with eight total tackles, including a club-best six solo. Defensive back Will Harris and linebacker Pete Werner both recorded six total tackles (five solo) and Saunders was right behind them with five total tackles (four solo).
- Defensive end Cameron Jordan played in his 222nd career regular season game and moved into sole possession of 19th place in games played among NFL defensive linemen past Justin Smith. He finished with one tackle and one pass defense.
- Defensive back J.T. Gray finished with a game-high three special teams tackles, increasing his career-high total to 23.
