Bill O'Brien was able to get his team to 11 wins after starting the season 0-3. The Texans won seven more games than in 2017. The Texans had to overcome adversity when wideout Will Fuller went down with a season-ending knee injury. DeAndre Hopkins stepped up and received consideration for the MVP award at the end of the season. The Pro Bowl wideout had 103 receptions for 1,425 yards and 11 touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball, Tyrann Mathieu and Justin Reid proved to be one of the better safety tandems, while Jadeveon Clowney and J.J. Watt combined for 23.5 sacks.
