Game notes: New Orleans Saints, Tennessee Titans | 2024 NFL preseason Week 3

Saints finish the preseason with 1-2 record

  • New Orleans finished the preseason1-2 after the 30-27 loss to the Tennessee Titans.The Saints return to action on Sunday, Sept. 8 when they host the Carolina Panthers at the Caesars Superdome for the 2024 season opener for both teams. Kickoff is set for noon. CST. The game will be regionally televised on Fox (WVUE Fox-8 in the New Orleans area).
  • The Saints' preseason series record with the Titans is now dead even with the loss, sitting at 15-15-1.
  • The Saints won the turnover battle, as they had zero turnovers while forcing the Titans to fumble once, which led to a field goal.
  • The New Orleans offensive line only surrendered one sack as the Saints defense recorded two quarterback takedowns.
  • Second-year quarterback Jake Haener received the start, but rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler and Haener both saw action throughout the contest. Haener completed eight of 17 passes for 87 yards, and posted an 80.9 QBR.
  • Rattler finished seven-of-13 for 105 yards and one touchdown. With Rattler under center, he led the Black and Gold to 24 of their 27 points. Receiver Equanimeous St. Brown and Rattler connected for a 21-yard touchdown late in the second quarter.
  • Running back Jacob Kibodi led the Saints rushing attack with 12 carries for 59 yards and two touchdowns while also adding one grab.
  • Running back Jordan Mims was efficient with 33 rushing yards on five carries while adding two grabs for 14 yards. He also had a 23-yard kickoff return.
  • Second-year receiver A.T. Perry led the receiving effort with two grabs for 67 yards, including a 43-yard grab from Rattler late in the fourth quarter.
  • St. Brown finished with three catches for 40 yards, including the 21-yard grab from Rattler.
  • Receiver Stanley Morgan Jr., playing in his hometown of New Orleans, finished with three catches for 34 yards.
  • Defensive back Joejuan Williams led the defensive unit with five solo stops, with two assisted tackles, totaling seven. He also added one assisted tackle.
  • Linebacker Anfernee Orji recorded a game-high nine stops (four solo) to lead the team with 20 in the preseason.
  • Defensive lineman Kendal Vickers and Isaiah Foskey split a sack. Vickers and Foskey had five stops apiece.
  • Safety Ugo Amadi recorded five stops (three solo), one assisted coverage tackle and returned a punt 16 yards.
  • Linebacker Mike Rose accumulated four stops (three solo), including a tackle for loss.
  • Rookie cornerback Rico Payton led the Saints with three pass breakups, and he also added his first ever sack in the NFL, as part of a two-tackle day.
  • Receiver Samson Nacua had one of the most electrifying special teams plays of the NFL preseason, when on the last play of the first half, he returned a missed 58-yard field-goal attempt 106 yards to the Tennessee 3-yard line, narrowly missing a touchdown.
  • Linebacker Andrew Dowell and rookie receiver Bub Means finished with two special teams tackles apiece. Means recorded two receptions for 17 yards.
  • Kicker Blake Grupe finished a perfect two-of-two on field-goal attempts, with one of those being a game-long 54 yarder. He also made all three extra-point attempts.
