Halftime update: Kansas City Chiefs 21, New Orleans Saints 7

Teams are playing at Arrowhead Stadium

Kansas City, Mo. - The Kansas City Chiefs took a 21-7 halftime lead over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium.

The Chiefs scored on a 46-yard screen pass from Alex Smith to Spencer Ware, a 48-yard interception return from Daniel Sorensen and a 38-yard TD catch by Tyreek Hill.

The Saints scored on their opening possession - the fourth consecutive game they have done that - on a 9-yard pass from Drew Brees to Brandin Cooks.

The Saints lost three players to injury in the first half: left tackle Terron Armstead, left guard Senio Kelemete and special-teamer Jake Lampman. Armstead re-entered the game in the second quarter.

Penalties were also a problem for the Saints, as they had seven accepted penalties for 50 yards.

Brees, 16 of 22 for 171 yards with one TD and one interception

Mark Ingram, seven carries for 23 yards

Willie Snead IV, five receptions for 51 yards

Chiefs stat leaders

Smith, 10 of 15 for 142 yards with two TDs

Ware, six carries for 50 yards

Travis Kelce, two catches for 24 yards
