Halftime update: New York Giants 7, New Orleans Saints 3

Giants return blocked field goal for touchdown

East Rutherford, N.J. - The New York Giants returned a blocked field-goal attempt 65 yards for a touchdown and a 7-3 halftime lead over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.

Rookie kicker Will Lutz's kick late in the second quarter was blocked Johnathan Hankins and returned by Janoris Jenkins for the lone touchdown in the half.

Lutz came back on the Saints next possession and made a 39-yard field goal with seven seconds to play in the half.

The Saints defense forced three Giants fumbles - all recovered by the Saints - but couldn't convert them to points. The defense also stopped the Giants on a fourth-and-goal play from the 2-yard line.

The Saints suffered a major blow when cornerback P.J. Williams was knocked out of the game while making a tackle in the first quarter. According to the Fox TV broadcast he has been taken to a local hospital and has a concussion. The game was stopped for several minutes as medical personnel attended to the second-year player.

In the second quarter Saints quarterback Drew Brees moved past Dan Marino into third place on the NFL's all-time yardage list.

Brees, 15 of 22 for 108 yards.

Running back Mark Ingram, six carries for 24 yards

Receiver Mike Thomas, two catches for 40 yards

Giants stat leaders:

Quarterback Eli Manning, 13 of 16 for 128 yards.

Running back Rashad Jennings, nine carries for 24 yards

Odell Beckham Jr, five catches for 45 yards.
