John DeShazier: Look for change at linebacker vs. the Chargers

Look for Craig Robertson to start at middle linebacker

San Diego - The glaring inactive against the San Diego Chargers is middle linebacker James Laurinaitis, the free agent signee from the Rams who started the New Orleans Saints' first three games. Coach Sean Paytonespecially expressed disappointment in how the front seven played run defense against Atlanta, and particularly stated that Laurinaitis did not have a good showing in the game, in which the Falcons rushed for 217 yards and three touchdowns on 31 carries.

That could mean one of several things. Craig Robertson, a starter at "Will" linebacker the first three games in place of injured Dannell Ellerbe, could slide over and start in the middle and be replaced by Nate Stupar. Or Stephone Anthonycould move to the middle, where he started all last season as a rookie, from the "Sam" linebacker position. Stupar is listed as the backup to Anthony at "Sam." Also, Michael Mautihas played significant snaps at linebacker and could be in the mix for increased snaps, and perhaps a start.

Also, running back Willie Sneadremains a healthy inactive, signifying that Payton and his staff like what they've seen from Tommylee Lewisas a punt returner and Travaris Cadetas a kickoff returner and third-down back. The remaining inactives were expected.

One note: rookie safety Vonn Belllikely will make his second NFL start Sunday at free safety. Bell worked with the No. 1 defense this week in practice.
