The Las Vegas Raiders scored a touchdown with less than a minute to play and entered halftime with a 13-10 lead over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday at the Caesars Superdome.
The Raiders (3-12) scored their first points on two Daniel Carlson field goals before adding a 4-yard touchdown pass from Aidan O'Connell to Jakobi Meyers to cap off a 95-yard drive. The Raiders had the ball for 19:39 to dominate time of possession.
Trailing 3-0 the Saints used a little trickery to get on the scoreboard. Rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler threw to running back back Kendre Miller, who threw back to Rattler, who then found an open tight end Foster Moreau for a 30-yard touchdown pass. The Saints added a 34-yard Blake Grupe field goal as the half ended.
Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan helped stop the Raiders when they had first-and-goal on the 1-yard line on the opening possession. He had a tackle for a two-yard loss on second down and then sacked quarterback O'Connell for a 10-yard loss on third down, forcing a field-goal attempt (good from 31 yards). O'Connell is the 49th quarterback Jordan has sacked and it gives him 121.5 sacks for his 14-year career.
Former LSU star Clyde Edwards-Helaire made his Saints debut and had three carries for 17 yards. Rattler had a 28-yard run on a designed keeper on the team's first offensive play. He completed 11 of 13 passes for 146 yards, with the touchdown to Moreau. Miller left the game in the second quarter with a possible concussion. The Saints had six penalties for 40 yards and were zero for two on third down.
The Saints will get the ball to start the second half.
