Game notes: New Orleans Saints at Los Angeles Chargers | 2024 NFL Week 8

Kamara led the Saints offense Sunday with his 54th career 100-plus yards from scrimmage performance

  • The Saints fell on the road to the Chargers 26-8, dropping their record to 2-6. They will return to action next Sunday at Bank of America Stadium in an NFC South matchup against the Carolina Panthers in a contest that will be regionally televised on CBS (available locally on WWL 4).
  • Rookie QB Spencer Rattler got the start for New Orleans and finished 12-of-24 for 156 yards, including a game-long 37-yard completion to RB Alvin Kamara.
  • QB Jake Haener relieved Rattler in the second half and added 122 yards through the air on 9-of-17 passing, including a career-long 36-yard completion to WR Bub Means.
  • Kamara led the Saints offense Sunday with his 54th career 100-plus yards from scrimmage performance (122). He posted ten rushes for 67 yards (6.7 avg) and added six receptions 55 yards including a team-long 37-yard grab. With 6,334 career rushing yards, Kamara has moved into 85th place in NFL record books and is 167 rushing yards from surpassing RB Mark Ingram II and becoming the franchise's all-time leader.
  • Kamara played in his 109th career regular season game and moved into a tie for 39th on the club's all-time list for games played with CB Fred Thomas and T Dave Lafary.
  • Before leaving with a hamstring injury, RB Kendre Miller carried three times for 16 yards and had a 41-yard kickoff return on the first runback of his NFL career.
  • WR Chris Olave led New Orleans pass catchers with eight receptions for 107 yards. It was the first 100-yard receiving game of the season for the third year wideout and the first for the Saints in 2024, as well as the tenth of Olave's three-year career.
  • TE Juwan Johnson added three catches for 48 yards.
  • LB Demario Davis anchored the New Orleans defense on Sunday, tying for the team lead with nine tackles (five solo).
  • LB Pete Werner returned from a multi-week injury absence for the Black and Gold and finished with nine stops (game-high seven solo), tying for the team lead with Davis.
  • DT Khalen Saunders added four tackles and his first sack of the season and first as a Saint, for a ten yard loss.
  • DE Chase Young finished with added two tackles, including one split sack.
  • DB Ugo Amadi was elevated from the practice squad on Sunday and posted three solo stops and his first career sack for a loss of eight yards.
  • CB Alontae Taylor finished with three tackles and a half sack. The half sack brings his team loading total to four on the season, tying former Saint Alex Molden's total from 1997 for the most by a cornerback in franchise history.
  • S Tyrann Mathieu added five solo tackles for the Saints secondary.
  • DE Cameron Jordan played in his 217th career game on Sunday, moving into sole possession of 25th in games played among defensive linemen.
  • DB J.T. Gray led the team with two special teams tackles to increase his season total to a club-best 16.
  • In an impact play forced by TE Taysom Hill on special teams, New Orleans forced a safety on a fourth down punt attempt to give them an early 2-0 lead in the contest, the team's first safety since Dec. 20, 2020 vs. Kansas City.
  • P Matthew Hayball had a career-high nine punts for 437 yards (48.6 avg), including a career-high five punts downed inside the 20-yard line and a long of 59 yards. He posted a net punting average of 41.0.
  • LS Zach Wood played in his 123rd career game on Sunday and moved into a tie with RB Mark Ingram II for 30th all-time on the team's games played list.
