New Orleans Saints agree to terms on 1-year contract with Ramon Humber

Linebacker was a special teams standout in 2013 and made three starts

The New Orleans Saints announced today that they have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with inside linebacker Ramon Humber. The announcement was made by Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis.

"There is always room for growth and improvement, even as a five-year veteran," said Ramon Humber. "Now that I'm back my emphasis will be the same, to do whatever I can do to help the saints and continue to improve, whether it is on special teams or as a linebacker."

Humber, 5 feet 11, 232 pounds, joined the Saints in 2010 and has been an asset on both special teams and as a part of the club's linebacker rotation. First signed as an undrafted free agent out of North Dakota State by the Indianapolis Colts in 2009, Humber has appeared in 63 career games with eight starts and has posted career totals of 71 tackles (42 solo), 1.5 sacks, two passes defensed and one forced fumble. On special teams, Humber has been one of the top specialists in the league on coverage units, recording 52 career tackles.

In 2013, Humber appeared in all 16 games for the first time since his rookie season in 2009. In addition to being one of the club's staples on special teams, he also opened three contests. Humber finished the season tying a career-high with 24 tackles (17 solo), splitting a sack and posting one pass defensed. On special teams, he recorded nine stops and also recovered onside kicks in two consecutive contests. In the postseason, Humber appeared in both games with one start. He posted a special teams stop in the NFC wild-card game at Philadelphia and opened the NFC divisional playoff game at Seattle on the outside and finished with a postseason career-high seven stops (five solo).
