New Orleans Saints agree to terms with DE Chris Rumph II

New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced today that the club has agreed to terms with unrestricted free agent defensive end Chris Rumph II on a one-year contract.

Rumph, 6-2, 244, is entering his fifth NFL campaign. He was originally selected in the fourth round (118th overall) by the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Duke. In four seasons with the Chargers (2021-24), Rumph has played in 37 regular season games, recording 29 tackles (17 solo), three sacks, four stops for a loss, one pass breakup, one fumble recovery, and ten special teams stops. He also appeared in the 2022 Wild Card Playoff against the Jacksonville Jaguars. In 2024, the Gainesville, Fla. native spent the entire season on Injured Reserve due to a foot injury.

In four seasons at Duke (2017-20), Rumph appeared in 36 games with 12 starts, recording 125 tackles (71 solo), 17.5 sacks, 34 stops for a loss, five pass breakups, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. As a junior in 2019, he was named a first team All-American by Pro Football Focus and earned second team All-American honors from Sports Illustrated after compiling 47 tackles (19 solo), 13.5 stops for a loss, 6.5 sacks, three pass breakups, and one forced fumble.
