New Orleans Saints Offensive Coordinator Pete Carmichael - Conference Call With New Orleans Media - Friday, September 21, 2018
How does the Falcons defense change with Deion Jones and Keanu Neal?
"Well I think you're talking about two great football players, guys that have played at a high level against us, but (without them) you still see a fast, physical, disciplined, well coached, high effort and energy (defense) so you still see a defense that's playing well. (Their) Guys are always going to be in the right spot. Like every time we play them, I think we've got a big challenge in front of us."
Later in the Browns game it seemed like the run game was showing improvement. Do you think that part of the offense will continue on the upward trend?
"I think overall we have to coach it better and we have to execute it better. It is paying attention to the details and making sure that we're covering all our bases and like you said at the end of that last game it (the run game) started to roll. Hopefully we continue to grow on that."
What do you think about Drew Brees likely breaking the all-time completions record on Sunday?
"I'll be honest, I really don't pay attention to all those stats now that the season has started and you kind of lose track of all the things that he potentially can do. But you hear about it after the game and it's a credit to him and he would probably give all the credit back to the guys he's played with, staff and coaches that have been a part of it."
Are there any consequences to having Mike Thomas and Alvin Kamara being such a high percentage of the offensive production?
"I think they just have been in situations where the ball has gone to them. We're always going to try to put those guys in position to make plays. But the one thing that we've done over the years here is to really spread the ball around and get it to different guys and you know Drew's (Brees) going to find open guys. We can continue to build with those other guys and get them going too."
How have you seen Cameron Meredith progressing?
"I think he's progressing well. He maybe doesn't have quite as much time with Drew as maybe some of the other guys, but we feel good with where he is at and I think his workload is going to continue to increase."
How has Jermon Bushrod jumped into that Jumbo package for the offense?
"I think that A, he's active on game day and it is a position he knows and we have a lot of confidence in him doing that role for us. If it comes up, we feel comfortable with him in there.
