Charlotte, N.C. – New Orleans Saints receiver Chris Olave left the first quarter of Sunday's game against Carolina with his second concussion of the season, his second in the last four games.
Olave was carted off after being placed on a stretcher and strapped down, though he had movement in all extremities. He was taken to Atrium Health, Carolina's medical center, for further evaluation. According to Coach Dennis Allen, Olave was released from the hospital and will return to New Orleans with the team.
Olave posted on X after the game that he is going to be OK.
Olave was the target of a deep pass by quarterback Derek Carr on first-and-10 from the Saints' 24-yard line, with New Orleans leading 3-0 and 7:02 remaining in the first quarter. Olave leapt and extended for the pass and was met by Panthers safety Xavier Woods, who was assessed a personal foul for unnecessary roughness on the play.
The Saints ended the possession with a field goal and extended the lead to 6-0.
Previously, Olave left the game against Denver on Oct. 13 after suffering a concussion – he has had a concussion in each of his three NFL seasons – and sat out the next game as he cleared concussion protocol.
In his first game back, against the Chargers last week, he absorbed a high blow in the first tackle, reeled in a 20-yard catch but was sent to the medical tent to be tested for a possible concussion. He cleared testing and finished with 107 yards on eight catches.
