Week 14 Postgame Quotes: Drew Brees

Postgame reactions from Saints quarterback Drew Brees

QUARTERBACK DREW BREES

On the interception in the end zone:

"Yeah, I shouldn't have thrown it. They made a nice play. It wasn't worth the risk right there, especially when you know that you have points. It's not like you have to have a touchdown to tie. We could have kicked the field goal since we had points. I'm just disappointed in the result there. I should not have taken that chance."

On the penalties:

"Yeah, we're so locked in from series to series that I'm not paying too much attention to what's happening on the other side of the ball. In the grand scheme of things, I'm just focused on the next drive, the next series, and being prepared for that. At the end of the day, I'm not sure what the final tally was."

On the discussion with Sean Payton on the fourth-and-one situation:

"He said we came here to win. We felt like if we don't get it, we still have time outs. If we kick a field goal right now, we give them a lot of time."

On playing on Thursday night:

"It's 100 percent a product of playing on Thursday night. We worry about what we can control. We play the games that are on the schedule, and play them when they say we do. But, when you see guys go down, it seems unnecessary because you put them at a much higher risk with such a quick turnaround."

On Tommylee Lewis:

"I thought it was a great effort. Like I said, he stepped up and really did a great job. He was called upon to step in and make some plays just like he has all season long. He's got a package of plays, but with [Alvin] Kamara being down, and just some other scenarios that you need a guy to be able to step in and know the role, know the job, and then execute it very well. He did that."

On Sean Payton's penalty:

"I'm sure he commented on it."

On the frustration of the end of the game:

"Well, it's frustrating for me because on second down we've got three points to tie the game and our defense is back out on the field to stop them and we go into overtime and have a chance to win. So you're assessing the rest, and that was not a risk that I should have taken."

On the assessment of the season:

"My job is to get us in the end zone. Depending on how the flow of the game is going and depending on what I am asked to do, I will do that to the best of my ability."

On the takeaway of the game:

"I look at how our guys fought, and they fought. It's all in focus. We control our destiny, so we've got to win."
