Why Benjamin Watson should win NFL's Walter Payton Man of the Year Award

The Walter Payton Man of the Year Award is given annually by the National Football League honoring a player's volunteer and charity work as well as his excellence on the field. Team nominees for all 32 clubs have been announced.

Below are eight reasons why New Orleans Saints 2015 Man of the Year should win the NFL's Man of the Year award.

1. Watson One More Foundation

Watson's faith-based One More Foundation was founded in 2008 by him and his wife, Kirsten, and is devoted to spreading the love and hope of Christ by meeting real needs, promoting education and providing enrichment opportunities through charitable initiatives and partnerships.

2. One of CNN's Most Extraordinary People of the Year in 2014

Honored for his thoughtful essay on the grand jury decision in Ferguson, Missouri.

3. NFL Spokesman for the All Pro Dad Campaign

Campaign aims to help fathers love and lead their family well.

4. Sports Impact Award winner at K-LOVE Fan Awards

Honored for his powerful, thoughtful social media posts on current news topics.

5. Author of "Under Our Skin"

The book, which was released in November, addresses with candor and compassion many of the most diverse cultural issues that affect our society

6. "The Big BENefit"

Since coming to New Orleans, the Watsons have hosted "The Big BENefit" which provides gift cards to 25 families selected by the New Orleans Family Justice Center for a shopping spree.

7. Prominent Public Speaker

A valued public speaker to youth groups, churches, schools, organizations and as a member of the NFLPA Executive Committee and Pro Athlete Outreach.

8. New Orleans Saints Team Captain

Watson is having a career year on the field, where he was voted by his teammates as a team captain, and has started all 13 games, recording 61 receptions for 712 yards (11.7 avg.) with four touchdowns, including two performances with at least 100 yards receiving.
