Following a convincing 44-19 victory over the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium, the New Orleans Saints (2-0) will seek to become the eighth Saints squad to win their first three games and retain at least a tie for first place in the NFC South when they host the Philadelphia Eagles (1-1) on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2024.
The Philadelphia Eagles fell late in the 4th quarter to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2. Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins completed 5-of-6 passes for 70 yards and a touchdown in 65 seconds on the game-winning drive. The Eagles had a pre-snap win probability of 98.5 pct before a Saquon Barkley dropped pass on 3rd and 3 with 1:46 left in the 4th quarter. Jalen Hurts completed 23-of-30 passes for 183 yards, 1 pass TD, 1 INT, 85 rushing yards & 1 rushing TD against the Falcons. Hurts & Barkley combined for 180 rushing yards in Week 2 (combined for 142 in Week 1).
The Saints and Eagles first met on Nov. 5, 1967, with New Orleans posting a 31-24 victory at Tulane Stadium. It was the first win in franchise history. In 1967 and 1969, New Orleans and Philadelphia were rivals in the NFL's Capitol division. The Eagles lead the regular season series 18-13, with the Saints holding a 3-1 edge in the playoffs. The Saints are 11-8 in regular season and postseason games played in New Orleans, the most recent a 20-14 2018 NFC Divisional Playoff Saints win. 14 of the 35 games in the Saints-Eagles series have been decided by a touchdown or less, with eight decided by three points or less.
