GAME NOTES

  • The Saints fell to the Carolina Panthers 23-22 on Sunday. New Orleans returns to action Sunday, Nov. 10 against the Atlanta Falcons in the Ceasars Superdome. Kickoff is scheduled for noon with the game regionally televised on FOX (WVUE-8 locally).
  • New Orleans outgained Carolina 427-246 and won the time of possession battle 34:19-25:41. The Black and Gold outrushed the Panthers 197-80.
  • Quarterback Derek Carr came back to his starting position, the first time back on the field since Week Five at Kansas City. He finished 18 of 31 for 236 yards with one touchdown and zero interceptions.
  • Carr also moved into a tie for 26th all-time in the NFL record book with Drew Bledsoe in touchdown passes with his 251st career scoring pass.
  • His touchdown strike was to tight end Foster Moreau. The 17-yard connection was in the fourth quarter.
  • Running back Alvin Kamara had 29 carries for 155 yards (5.3 avg.), while adding six receptions for 60 yards. He surpassed his career-high in total yards from scrimmage with his 215-yard performance. The 215 yards from scrimmage are the highest total in the NFL in 2024 and the fifth-highest in franchise history. It is the ninth time for a Saints individual performance of at least 200 yards from scrimmage.
  • With his six receptions, Kamara moved into 11th all-time in receptions by running backs surpassing John L. Williams. With two against Atlanta, he will move into a tie for 10th with Darren Sproles and with three, he will surpass Sproles. He also surpassed Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Marshall Faulk (Class of 2011) for the most receptions by a running back in his first eight seasons in NFL history with 551.
  • He also moved into 17th place in NFL record books in running back receiving yards surpassing Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Walter Payton (Class of 1993) with 4,586.
  • Tight end Taysom Hill was on full display as he recorded five carries for 19 yards and a score, and contributed on the receiving side with four catches for 41 yards.
  • Tight end Juwan Johnson finished with two receptions for 41 yards (20.5 avg).
  • The only takeaway from the game came from cornerback Shemar Jean-Charles, and it was his first career NFL interception. He also tacked on a solo tackle.
  • Linebacker Pete Werner led the defensive effort with nine total tackles (five solo).
  • Defensive end Carl Granderson tallied six total tackles (two solo) with a half-sack shared with defensive tackle Nathan Shepherd.
  • Cornerback Alontae Taylor added four tackles (three solo) and a game-high three passes defensed.
  • Linebacker D'Marco Jackson led the Saints with three special teams tackles.
  • Punter Matthew Hayball punted four times for 169 yards (42.3 gross avg), including one downed inside the 20-yard line and also gained 11 yards on a fake punt.
  • Kicker Blake Grupe drilled all three field-goal attempts, including one from 51 yards and made his only PAT attempt. Grupe has made 13 of 14 field-goal attempts this season for a club-best 57 points.
