Charlotte, N.C. – The New Orleans Saints' season reached its depth Sunday in a 23-22 loss to Carolina at Bank of America Stadium, extending the Saints' losing streak to seven games and ending Carolina's at five.
But even with that, the Saints (2-7) had several players worth noting.
OFFENSE: There's not much more that Alvin Kamara could have done on Sunday. He ran for 155 yards on 29 carries and caught six passes for 60 yards; his 205 yards from scrimmage bested his previous career high of 197. He topped 1,000 scrimmage yards for the season and he now is 12 rushing yards short of climbing atop the franchise all-time leaderboard. In short, Kamara was about all the Saints had on offense after Chris Olave suffered a concussion in the first quarter, and he still was able to produce his single-game high in yards from scrimmage.
DEFENSE: If you come up with your first career interception in your first career start, that's worth noting. And that's what cornerback Shemar Jean-Charles did Sunday, in addition to adding a couple of tackles. But tilt a little love to cornerback Alontae Taylor, who finished with three pass breakups – two, he could have intercepted – and four tackles.
SPECIAL TEAMS: The easy answer would be kicker Blake Grupe, whose three field goals included a 51-yarder. But linebacker D'Marco Jackson had two tackles and an assist on special teams, and that deserves some shine.
