One player Saints fans will be interested in getting an extended look at during 2013 Saints Training Camp presented by Verizon is second-year wide receiver Nick Toon after his rookie season was cut short due to injury.
Toon was placed on Injured Reserve (foot injury) prior to the start of the 2012 regular season. The former University of Wisconsin standout appeared in two preseason contests for the Black-and-Gold before being placed on Injured Reserve.
The tall, sure-handed target looks to compete for a spot in the New Orleans receiver rotation after a standout college career, where he followed in his father Al's footsteps, who left as the school's leading receiver in 1985 and became a three-time Pro Bowl wideout for the New York Jets.
In his time at Wisconsin, Nick surpassed his father by recording 171 catches for 2,447 yards and 18 touchdowns to finish ranked in the top five in all three categories.
Sean Payton on Nick Toon (June 4, 2013):
"I think last year he was nicked up and missed a lot of snaps because of his injury, so it's just the experience in getting out there and functioning as a receiver. He has good size, which I like in length and it is just a matter of getting settled in and again, once we get into pads, (him) establishing himself as someone who is consistent."
