Since Sean Payton became the coach of the New Orleans Saints the franchise has developed a strong track record of bringing in talented undrafted rookies to compete for spots on the 53-man roster.
There are countless examples of these undrafted players not only making the team's roster but becoming key contributors. Star running back Pierre Thomas is a perfect example but there have been dozens of other undrafted players to make an impact for the Saints.
Last season running back Khiry Robinson, quarterback Ryan Griffin, tight end Josh Hill, defensive end Glenn Foster and center Tim Lelito all made the team after being passed over in the draft. The prior season Travaris Cadet made the team.
The 2014 Saints training camp presented by Verizon will be a key proving ground for this year's crop of undrafted players which includes running backs Derrick Strozier and Timothy Flanders, tight ends Je'Ron Hamm and Nic Jacobs, safety Ty Zimmerman and receiver Brandon Coleman.
Which one will be the next Pierre Thomas? Stay tuned.
