Inglewood, Calif. – The New Orleans Saints couldn't end their skid Sunday, their 26-8 loss to the Chargers at SoFi Stadium being their sixth straight.
There wasn't much to savor, but there were a few performances worth noting.
OFFENSE: Running back Alvin Kamara continued to lead the offense, with 122 yards from scrimmage on 16 touches. Kamara has been a marked man, especially with the slew of injuries on offense, but was able to muster a 24-yard run and 37-yard reception on a screen pass, New Orleans' longest run and catch of the day. An honorable mention for receiver Chris Olave, who returned after missing the last game due to a concussion and immediately took a hit so vicious that it required a trip to the medical tent to be evaluated for another concussion. He gained 20 yards on that play and finished with a team-high 107 yards on eight catches.
DEFENSE: Linebacker Pete Werner also returned from injury (hamstring) and showed flashes of being back to his normal self. Werner totaled a team-high nine tackles, including two for loss. But, too, show a little love for safety Ugo Amadi, who picked up the first sack of his NFL career.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Matthew Hayball worked overtime Sunday, and he was effective while doing it. The rookie punter averaged 41 net yards on nine punts and had five inside the 20. He routinely did his job and pinned the Chargers deep. Give a shoutout to running back Kendre Miller for his 41-yard kickoff return. He showed potential there but, unfortunately, left the game with another hamstring injury.
