Saints captain sets career high in tackles in 13th NFL season

DEMARIO DAVIS 2024 SEASON ANALYSIS:

New Orleans Saints linebacker Demario Davis completed his 13th NFL season in 2024. Davis' remarkable durability did prove fallible as he missed the first game ever due to injury in his career in Week 4 against the Atlanta Falcons with his only other missed contest in his career occurring in 2021 due to Covid. Davis suited up for all 16 other contests.

Even in his age-35 season the Saints captain managed to set a career high in tackles with 136 (69 solo). Davis has now accrued seven straight 100+ tackles seasons since joining the Saints in 2018. Davis also added five tackles for a loss including 2.0 sacks. Davis racked up seven passes defensed and brought down an interception against the Giants, the fourth of his career.

Davis also added his leadership in the locker room and in the community as he continued his tradition of leading the team in pregame huddles and served as a team captain for his seventh straight year. Off the field, he earned the NFLPA Community MVP for Week 8 and continued his numerous efforts to support the community.

BEST GAME OF DEMARIO DAVIS' 2024 SEASON:

The man in the middle of the Saints defense tallied a number of quality performance with six games with 10+ tackles in 2024, but he tallied a season high 14 tackles in the Saints week 14 game against the Washington Commanders. That total tied for the second-highest single-game tally of his career. He also added a sack. He played a key role in holding the Commanders, the fifth highest scoring offense for the season, to 20 points, tied for their third lowest scoring total in a game for the season.

"In this game when you play for a lot of different teams, what you understand is, there's a difference in fans and there's a difference in family. One thing I love about playing in New Orleans since the time I got here is the majority of our fan base is family. What I mean by that is, fans usually get on the road with a team when they're hot. Family is with you, through the good times and the bad times. There's no secret that our team is in a dark time right now. When you're in dark times, everyone is looking for the same thing. You're looking for light, and you're looking for direction. What I'm hoping to offer over these next few minutes is a little bit of light, a little bit of direction. ... The message is also that we can't panic, that we can't worry. We have to stay together, we have to stay united, and we have to trust that we will rise from this. We will get back to what we all desire to be. We have the right decision-makers to do that. If you just look at the team, we draft well, we do great in free agency, and if you look across the game, that is what sustains teams over the long haul. Continuity, drafting well, bringing the right guys in, and at the right time, we will rise. Light will come again, so we won't panic, we won't jump ship, we'll continue to charge, we'll continue to move straight ahead, looking to finish the season 1-and-0, and then we'll go from there. That's my message."
