NFL games can now be flexed into NBC's "Sunday Night Football" as early as Week 5, the NFL announced Wednesday.
Previously, flex scheduling didn't start until Week 11.
The New Orleans Saints vs Carolina Panthers Week 14 game last season was flexed to "Sunday Night Football."
With the updated flexing date, the NFL cannot flex the SNF game every week. The league can flex up to two games total into Sunday night between Weeks 5-10 and not any Thursday or Monday night contests.
NFL's senior vice president of public relations Greg Aiello said the league can now apply "cross flexing," meaning switching games between CBS and FOX to bring potentially under-distributed games to wider audiences.
