Detroit - New Orleans Saints Coach Sean Payton said Sunday morning that star tight end Jimmy Graham will play against the Detroit Lions but that the team will be smart in how it uses him.

Graham hurt his shoulder in the Saints' last game, a 37-31 overtime win at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. New Orleans Saints had a bye last week.

The status of Detroit star receiver Calvin Johnson isn't known yet. He was on the Ford Field turf early Sunday running sprints but he did not participate in any of the team's practices this week because of a high ankle sprain.
