Mark Ingram placed on season-ending injured reserve

FB Austin Johnson promoted to the active roster

New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram was placed on season-ending injured reserve Wednesday.

FB Austin Johnson has been promoted to the active roster from the practice squad.

Payton said on a conference call Thursday that Ingram went through an MRI on Monday and found out he had a torn rotator cuff in his left shoulder. Ingram will undergo surgery Thursday with Dr. James Andrews.

"After this past game, he had another MRI done and there was more damage done to (his left shoulder)," Payton said. "After the MRI we knew he had to get it fixed."

Ingram finishes the 2015 season with 166 carries for 769 yards and six touchdowns. The fifth-year veteran also caught 50 balls for 405 yards.
