New Orleans Saints announce roster moves

Saints sign defensive tackle Tony McDaniel, place John Hughes III on IR

The New Orleans Saints announced Thursday, Dec. 28 that they have signed defensive tackle Tony McDaniel and have placed defensive tackle John Hughes III on Injured Reserve. The announcements were made by Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis.

McDaniel, 6 feet 7, 305 pounds, has spent time with Jacksonville, Miami, Seattle, Tampa Bay and San Francisco after originally being signed as an undrafted rookie by the Jaguars in 2006 out of Tennessee. The Columbia, S.C., native has appeared in 145 career games with 47 starts and has totaled 285 tackles (163 solo), 11.5 sacks, 14 passes defensed, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries, including 43 tackles, three passes defensed and one fumble recovery with Seattle in in 2016. After spending training camp with the Saints in 2017, McDaniel appeared in four games for San Francisco, where he made five solo tackles, one pass defensed and one forced fumble.
