Marshon Lattimore, the New Orleans Saints' 11th pick of the 2017 NFL draft, has been named the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Month for December. This is the second Rookie of the Month selection for Lattimore, the first coming in October.
Lattimore, a 6-foot, 192-pounder from Cleveland, refers to himself as a "savage" and proves himself deserving of that name after having three interceptions in five games (one of which he was inactive) during the month of December. Possibly the most memorable interception by Lattimore came in the Dec. 24 home game against the Atlanta Falcons when he trapped the ball, intended for Atlanta's Julio Jones, on his backside and secured the ball on the Falcons' 36-yard line with 50 seconds left in the first half.
The rookie recorded nine pass deflections and 16 tackles last month. Lattimore leads the Saints in interceptions with five. In the league, he ranks No. 5 among defensive backs in interceptions and is the only rookie ranking in the top 10.
With the second selection of the season, Lattimore becomes the first defensive back to win multiple NFL Rookie of the Month awards since the award began in 1996.
Lattimore was selected as Rookie of the Week a total of four times this season:
Week 6: New Orleans Saints vs. Detriot Lions (October 15)
Week 8: New Orleans Saints vs. Chicago Bears (October 29)
Week 15: New Orleans Saints vs. New York Jets (December 17)
Week 16: New Orleans Saints vs. Atlanta Falcons (December 24)
