New Orleans Saints lead Titans 21-17 at halftime

Teams are playing in the Superdome

Second quarter update: The New Orleans Saints were penalized 14 times in the first half Friday night and still took a 21-17 lead over the visiting Tennessee Titans into halftime.

Ryan Griffin gave the Saints the lead with a 23-yard scoring pass to running back Mark Ingram.

Earlier Luke McCown connected twice with Jimmy Graham on touchdown passes.

Graham dunked the ball both times over the goal posts, drawing penalties.

Those penalties were just two of 14 the Saints racked up in the half for 116 yards.

The Titans weren't immune from the penalty bug as they committed seven for 91 yards. The Titans scored in the quarter when quarterback Zach Mettenberger hit Justin Hunter on a 64-yard scoring pass. Titans kicker Travis Coons made a 50-yarder earlier in the quarter.

The Saints did force two turnovers in the second quarter as Kenny Vaccaro stripped Titans running back Shonn Greene. Saints safety Rafael Bush recovered the ball. Vaccaro also had a sack in the quarter. His strip set up McCown's 19-yard scoring pass to Graham. Late in the quarter Cam Jordan got a strip-sack of Mettenberger which was recovered by Akiem Hicks.

Key stats: Saints, Luke McCown, 12 of 20 for 117 yards and two TDs; Mark Ingram, five carries for 19 yards. Jimmy Graham, five receptions for 48 yards and two TDs. Titans, Jake Locker, 8 of 11 for 75 yards and one TD. Shonn Greene, nine carries for 46 yards.
