The New Orleans Saints announced Monday that they have signed linebacker Todd Davis to a three-year contract and waived/injured cornerback A.J. Davis. The announcement was made by Saints' Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis.
Todd Davis, 6-foot-1, 230 pounds, comes to New Orleans after playing at Sacramento State from 2010-13. In four seasons with the Hornets, he appeared in 45 games and posted career totals of 351 tackles, 9.5 sacks, 30 stops for a loss, four forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, three interceptions, six passes defensed and one blocked kick. As a senior in 2013, the Palmdale, Calif. native appeared in 12 games as his team's middle linebacker and posted a club-best 131 tackles (54 solo), five sacks, 10 stops for a loss, two forced fumbles, two interceptions, four passes defensed and one blocked kick as he captured his second straight team defensive MVP Award, FCS second-team All-America honors by the Sports Network and first-team All-Big Sky Selection. As a junior in 2012, he was a second-team All-Big Sky selection at outside linebacker as he led the Hornets with 103 stops and 13.5 tackles for a loss and added 3.5 sacks. One fumble recovery and two passes defensed.
A.J. Davis was originally signed by New Orleans following the 2012 NFL Draft. In two seasons with the club, the former Jacksonville State standout has appeared in one contest on special teams.
