The New Orleans Saints start the preseason 1-0 for the fourth consecutive year. Their next contest is on Friday, Aug. 15 when they host the Tennessee Titans at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The game will be regionally televised on CST and Fox-8 with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
*This is the seventh time in nine seasons since Sean Payton became coach in 2006 that the Saints have won their preseason opener. Payton is now 17-13 in the preseason overall.
*The Saints now have a 1-2 record against the Rams in the preseason.
*In the first quarter for which their starters played nearly in its entirety, New Orleans outgained the Rams 100-60 and had seven first downs to St. Louis' three.
*New Orleans successfully converted five of 12 (42 percent) of its third down attempts. The team totaled 375 net yards with 123 coming on the ground.
*New Orleans scored on five of the team's first seven possessions, including consecutive touchdown drives.
*QB Drew Brees did not play due to an oblique injury and Luke McCown started in his place, completing seven of 10 passes for 49 yards and one interception
*QB Ryan Griffin took over behind center in the second quarter and completed 16 of 23 passes for 179 yards, one touchdown and a 107.0 passer rating.
*RB Mark Ingram got the start and had eight carries for 83 yards with a second quarter 22-yard touchdown run. Ingram also had a four-yard reception.
*RB Khiry Robinson had five carries for 23 yards with one touchdown, also catching two passes for 16 yards.
*TE Josh Hill had a 46-yard reception from Griffin in the second quarter to set up the touchdown run by Robinson. Hill finished with two catches for a game-high 67 receiving yards
*In his NFL playing debut, WR Brandin Cooks led New Orleans in receiving with five receptions for 55 yards and a third quarter 25-yard touchdown reception.
*DE Tyrunn Walker had a team-best six tackles (five solo), including one sack and three stops for a loss.
*NT Brodrick Bunkley had a first half sack.
*DE Glenn Foster, who lead Saints rookies in sacks in the 2013 preseason, posted three stops (two solo) and a sack for a loss of six yards.
*Derek Dimke and Shayne Graham booted one field goal apiece.
