Q&A: Sean Payton talks free agency, Jairus Byrd and Mark Ingram

Sean Payton says Jairus Byrd should be ready for minicamp

New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton spoke with Fox Sports New Orleans' sideline reporter Jennifer Hale during the New Orleans Pelicans vs Dallas Mavericks game on Monday. Below are some highlights from the interview:

On realistic goals with the team's salary cap situation:
"You set a few goals out. No. 1, you have to handle your own team. That's always challenging. You're seeing it around the league with the different players that are being released. Mickey (Loomis) and I will work closely on that with regards to our own players. We will also be pretty selective and try to identify if there is a fit for us in free agency."

On Jairus Byrd's rehab:
"He's doing well. His rehab is on schedule and he will be cleared for minicamp. We are really looking at about two or three weeks away from him being 100 percent."

On the team's relationship with RB Mark Ingram as he is set to become a free agent:
"It's been good. I spoke with him today. The good thing about Mark is that we are really close to his agent (Joel Segal). We have worked a lot with Joel. Mickey will talk with him quite a bit. Obviously, he's someone we want to keep and hopefully we can do that."
