The New Orleans Saints announced today the club has signed cornerback Quincy Butler and placed tackle Alex Barron on reserve/injured. The announcements were made by Saints' Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis.
Butler, a fourth-year cornerback out of Texas Christian University, has spent time with the Dallas Cowboys, St. Louis Rams and as a member of the Saints in 2010. He signed with the Saints as a free agent on October 20, 2010 to the practice squad then was waived and signed to the active roster by the Rams six days later.
He signed with the Dallas Cowboys in 2006 as an undrafted rookie free agent, spent time on the Cowboys' practice squad and was signed to the Saints' practice squad in 2008. He played for the Rams in 2009. He also saw playing time with the CFL's Calgary Stampeders in 2008. Butler is a native of San Antonio, Texas.
Barron was signed by the Saints as a free agent on August 3, 2011. A former Rams first round pick in 2005, Barron started 74 games over 5 years in St. Louis. He was traded to Dallas last year, starting just one game before hitting the free agent market this offseason. Barron, 28, was active for 11 games last year. Barron suffered a knee injury early in training camp with the Saints and has been limited in action.
