Saints-Titans Series

With 26 meetings, the Titans are New Orleans' most common preseason opponent. The Saints lead the preseason series 14-11-1. The two clubs played every preseason from1969-88, when the Titans were the Houston Oilers. They have played four times since they relocated to Tennessee in 1997.

Among memorable contests was the meeting between the Saints and Oilers on August 6, 1975, the first game played in the Louisiana Superdome. The most recent preseason contest on August 12, 2006, a 19-16 Saints win marked the head coaching debut of Sean Payton, QB Drew Brees' first appearance as a Saint and the NFL premieres of RB Reggie Bush and Titans QB Vince Young, the second and third choices respectively in that April's draft.

The Saints and Titans have played 11 times in the regular season, with Tennessee leading the series 7-4-1. Most recently, the Titans defeated the Saints 31-134 on September 24, 2007 in a Monday night contest which was marred by RB Deuce McAllister suffering a season-ending knee injury. The Saints have not recorded a win in the regular season series since 1993. Five games in the series have been decided by a touchdown or less
